Want to really get away from it all? Then the Mount Mee section of D’Aguilar National Park may just be the best camping spot near Brisbane for you (except if you have a campervan or caravan, you’re fresh out of luck at this destination).

An hour and a half from Brisbane, you have two campsites to pick from, Archer or Neurum Creek. Archer has an open grassy area surrounded by lush bushland, while Neurum Creek is an enclosed forest.

In just under two hours from Brisbane City, tall eucalypt trees, waterfalls and lush rainforests make Conondale National Park some of the best camping near Brisbane.

There are several camping sites to choose from, but Booloumba Creek 1 and 3 are our picks. It’s a BYO everything kind of deal.

Accessible by high clearance 4WD only, there are only twenty sites at each with minimal facilities because here it’s all about getting away from the crowds while immersing yourself in some pretty impressive rainforests.

Murray Falls

One of Queensland’s prettiest waterfalls certainly makes for a scenic setting and one of the best camping spots near Brisbane.

Located within Girramay National Park, this spot is surrounded by rainforested mountains and the crystal-clear water of the Murray River.

The waters cascade over boulders and form sparkling rock pools that are just begging to be swum in. The camping area is a large, open grassy area with shady trees.

A little island paradise off the shores of Brisbane, Peel Island is a heritage-listed island paradise that’s just begging to be explored.

If you like a few creature comforts while camping, then book a spot at Mount Barney Lodge Camping, an easy two-hour drive south of Brisbane.

Although they offer a Queenslander homestead and cabins, it’s the camping along the creek-front, with mountain views and a cosy fire that won us over as one of the best camping sites near Brisbane.

An idyllic spot for families, the grassy, shaded campground has unpowered grass campsites with designated fire circles, plus a modern amenity block with hot showers.

Located near the main landing point for Moreton Island Ferries, it’s an easy walk to get to, plus it has views of the shipwrecks which were deliberately sunk to create a break wall.

There are a limited number of camping spots permitted, so make sure to book in advance.
