What's On in Melbourne This Month: This Week
Don't Miss the Chance to See This Once-In-A-Lifetime Flower Bloom
It's a phenomenon that only happens once every 10 years, and it's happening right now....the corpse flower at Geelong Botanic Gardens is in full bloom.
Named for its distinct smell—which is likened to the smell of rotting flesh, a stinky pond or a dead mouse—the corpse flower is only expected to be in bloom for 24 to 48 hours.
The doors to The Conservatory are now open 24 hours until the flower stops blooming to maximise the opportunity for visitors to be able to see (and smell) the once-in-a-decade event.
Queues to see the bloom in the flesh (pardon the pun) are expected to be long, but visitors are already saying it is "well worth the wait".
For those who can't make it, the whole thing is being live-streamed online.
