Editor's Picks: Our Favourite Dishes in Sydney This Month
Shed the overwhelm with our edit of our favourite dishes in Sydney right now.
A personal recommendation goes a long way and that's what we love to share most at Sitchu. Sometimes, however, a restaurant recommendation isn't enough, and you want to know what dish you simply can't live without. With our favourite dishes of the month series, we're keen to share the dishes that had us licking our plates, scrounging around for a last morsel and jigging about in our seats with glee. Be warned, however. These are not first-date foods. These are the kinds of dishes you want to share with a dear friend — where it doesn't matter if you use your hands, scrape the plate or steal the last bite.
Bánh Xèo, Delta Rue
Fresh, coconutty and served with crisp veggies and herbs, the bánh xèo at Delta Rue is impeccable. Most importantly, it's not too oily so you can chow down by the plateful and still have room for some Vietnamese creme caramel.
61-101 Phillip Street, Sydney
Burnt Aussie Pavlova, Longshore
Having retained its maiden year hat, Longshore is going from strength to strength with fresh new interiors and a menu to match. Whilst you're in for an unforgettable seafood feast, please do save room for dessert. Not a fan of pavlova? Not to worry - this beauty would win anyone over. Even if you order it for 'just a spoonful', you'll soon find it has disappeared from your plate without a trace. All you need to know is that it's topped with mango, strawberry gum Chantilly and mango sorbet.
5 Kensington Street, Chippendale
Sea Salt Besan Ladoo, Flyover Fritterie
Whilst every.single.thing at Flyover Fritterie is worth writing home about, there's something extra special about the sea salt besan ladoo. The finishing touch to an Indian fusion feast, this textural delight is made from chickpea flour, ghee, cardamom and black pepper. Pair with a chai post dins or swing by for an arvo pick me up.
88 Regent Street, Redfern
Cacio e Pepe Popcorn, Bar Tilda
Some would say this isn't really a dish per se, I, however, acknowledge it as one due to the fact that I spoiled my dinner with it. And really, it wasn't spoiled as I enjoyed the popcorn so much. Salty, delicately cheesy and moreish like nothing else, this popcorn is a must-try. Bar Tilda's bar food is just the beginning...just wait until you peek the drinks list.
61-101 Phillip Street, Sydney
Pea Soup, Leek Fritter & Onion, Winstons
What I'd really like to do is put the whole set menu down here (which is incredible value FYI), but alas, this article calls for a dish and a dish you shall get. The menu has been curated by Chef Nelly Robinson (of Nel fame) and is a refreshing take on British gastro pub classics from Scotch eggs to coronation chicken. This pea soup will have you questioning precisely what you've been doing your whole life eating it any other way.
162 St Johns Road, Glebe
Kingfish Taco, North Bondi Fish
What's better than a fish taco? A kingfish taco, of course. North Bondi Fish's newly appointed Head Chef David Coumont has introduced an NBF favourites menu as well as a market fresh one. Whilst we strongly recommend ordering as many market-fresh goodies as possible, we also suggest adding an order of the kingfish tacos. Think white kingfish ceviche generously doused in coconut milk, all sitting pretty withing a crispy taco shell.
120 Ramsgate Avenue, North Bondi
