10 Years On: Sydney’s Beloved Restaurant and Celebrity Hotspot Marks a Milestone

Celebrations involve a new menu featuring the world's most photographed dish.

We’ve partnered with The Butler Potts Point for an immersive look at their 10-year anniversary menu update and interiors refresh.

Potts Point’s The Butler has built itself a reputation over the last 10 years of being a go-to for long lunches, bottomless brunches and celebrations of every kind — and not just for Sydney locals. Margot Robbie, Rita Ora, Gerard Butler and Andrew Garfield are just a few of the world-famous celebs that have dined here.

Those who have had the pleasure will call to mind the panoramic city views from the heritage-listed terrace, the always-killer menu from female Head Chef Amber Doig, and an open-air feel that shifts you automatically to a holiday mindset. But there's no resting on laurels here. As The Butler enters a new decade, a new menu and refreshed look is set to excite regulars and first-timers alike for the next decade to come.

The Butler

Innovative Seafood and the World’s Most Photographed Dish

Head Chef Amber Doig has been pursuing a career as a chef from the age of 17. Her culinary ambitions have seen her travel across the globe including to New York where she trained under superstar Alex Stupak, learning to cook Mexican/Ibero-American food. These skills have been channelled into The Butler’s fresh new menus that feature the distinct flavours of Mexico City’s Polanco and Roma Norte districts.

On top of highlight dishes of tostadas, lobster scrambled eggs and Achiote red rice, Doig’s new menu features the most photographed dish in the world, ‘the divorced fish’. According to the New York Times, this Roma Norte staple is the 2024 iteration of the cronut or miso black cod. And, in our humble opinion, The Butler’s version might be one of the most aesthetic yet. The butterflied NZ pink snapper is half dressed in red salsa and half dressed in green and yes, it tastes as good as it looks.

As for meat? Don’t miss the confit duck carnita with $1 of each dish sold going straight to local charity Wayside Chapel.

A Beverage List to Match

Designed to move you from entrees to mains and on to desserts, the new beverage list is equally impressive. Palomas, native spritz and tropical mezcal infusions litter the curated cocktail list whilst a nice, condensed wine list covers everything from sparkling to dessert. As for beer, it’s local all the way with Sydney breweries taking up the majority of the list.

Your Long Lunch Oasis

The Butler experience starts from the moment you discover the tucked-away terrace on this leafy Potts Point backstreet. The brand-new floral mural by Amok Island sets the scene for fun and fresh afternoon of indulgence. Serving options, seating flows throughout the venue from the sandstone dining room through to the sun-drenched terrace. Dressed in greenery, The Butler offers a divine backdrop to your day and a step away from the hustle and bustle.
