Mr. Good Guy

Happy Hour is an Australian staple. We love any excuse to make a good time even better, and whether you've planned post-work drinks or a casual catch-up with a friend, saving your pennies on drinks and dinner is always a win in our books.

Hobart is filled with buzzing pubs, restaurants and chic cocktail bars serving delightful deals on tipples and affordable bites every night of the week. We’ve done the hard work for you, so when you need to know the perfect place for your 5 pm let-your-hair-down cocktail, beer or vino, these are the best happy hours in Hobart.

Pearl & Co

Pearl + Co

On the Hobart waterfront at Victoria Dock, Pearl + Co serves freshly shucked oysters, sashimi, local wild fish ceviche, Tasmanian squid, and stunning water views.

Enjoy fresh Tasmanian Pacific Oysters or a curried scallop pot pie as you watch local fishing boats glide in and out of the marina thanks to the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows.

The fresh seafood pairs perfectly with one of the restaurant’s signature cocktails, with happy hour cocktail specials from 4 pm - 4 pm.

The Deck

The Deck

A gorgeous rooftop bar in the heart of Hobart’s CBD over Liverpool Street, The Deck is a vibrant place to go for a sunset tipple as you soak up the views of Kunanyi / Mt Wellington.

Aside from its breathtaking views and prime location, you can enjoy Tasmania's best beers, wines and cocktails at purse-friendly prices every weekday. From Monday to Friday, don’t miss their generous happy hour from 4-6 pm, where you can sip  $8 house wines, premium bottled and tap beer, and discounted nibbles with a drink purchase.

Need something a little heartier? The Deck has a fabulous menu that will fulfil whatever your appetite needs from small bites like Caprese salad and grilled calamari to larger meals such as pizza and pasta.

Mr. Good Guy

Mr. Good Guy

When the cravings hit for Southeast Asian food and delicious cocktails, head straight to Mr. Good Guy for the best vibes and one of the best happy hours in town.

The food is flavour-packed with a modern twist on traditional dishes, designed to be shared with friends, so make sure you have your colleagues or besties in tow.

From bao buns with char siu pork or soft shell crab to Thai green curry and Singaporean Laksa, you'll want to order more than one dish! When it comes to drinks, the 4 pm - 5 pm happy hour is the best time to order, with $10 cocktails, $6 house wines and schooners of Tiger for $8

Rude Boy

Rude Boy

For a taste of the Caribbean and a lively bar scene, head towards Rude Boy on Elizabeth Street. This funky and easy-going venue offers a great selection of cocktails — for which they were recently awarded best cocktail bar in Tassie - many revolving around the Caribbean’s signature spirit, rum.

The interior is easy to love, featuring tropical wallpaper, velvet upholstered booths, and an entire wall dedicated to a gallery of framed Caribbean posters.

Combining fried chicken and cocktails (say less), book a table during happy hour for a $8 peach spritz and a $10 raspberry spritz. Whatever the weather, or the reason, these babies always go down well.

Happy hour 4 pm - 6 pm, Monday to Saturday

Bar Wa Izakaya

Bar Wa Izakaya

We know happy hour tends to focus on the drinks, but it's hard to ignore a dining deal like this... plenty of Hobart restaurants have oysters on the menu, but few are as wildly popular as North Hobart’s eatery Bar Wa Izakaya.

Though its menu is stacked with traditional Japanese dishes, folks flock here for the oysters, mainly because they are delicious, but also because they are half-price between 4 pm and 6 pm every day.

Bar Wa tends to rotate how the oysters are served, but you’ll usually find tempura, Sainbazu (with a three-flavour dressing), and natural with lemon on the menu.

To accompany your oyster order, we’re big fans of the Yuzu whisky sour (or any of the delicious cocktails - all beautifully illustrated on the menu), while the 22-page drinks list is a thorough exploration of all things beer, wine and spirits, with local gin getting its own section

Happy Hour 4 pm - 6 pm, daily

In The Hanging Garden

In The Hanging Garden

Encompassing nearly an entire city block in the centre of Hobart, In The Hanging Garden is an extensive tiered beer garden and cultural precinct, with outdoor dining, bars, markets and live music. Enter the garden of earthly delights and get ready for all the good times to be had within its alfresco dining space, cascading with hanging plants and lighting. It's ready for all occasions, no matter the season.

Two onsite kitchens include Mother Mexico and Orzya, serving Mexican cantina specialities and pan-Asian delights, plus a variety of cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks.

Friday draws an early crowd thanks to the Friday Happy Hour serving $5 house wines and $9 pints in the garden from 5 pm. It's the perfect spot to set the vibes early before a night of dancing to epic DJ sets.

Society

Society

If you haven't yet visited Hobart's whisky, gin and cocktail bar in Battery Point - consider this your sign. Society Salamanca are the pros in an expertly-shaken or stirred drink, and they're spreading the love come happy hour.

You won't find tap beer and house wines here. Instead, choose from a classic gin and tonic and Paloma with pink grapefruit soda for $8.50, or get the party started early with a $15 espresso martini and a $10 house spritz with lemon.

Sitchu tip: Keep an eye on their socials, the team are known to throw in a one-day-only drinks special here and there to celebrate sunshine, or say, Friday.

Preachers

Preachers

While most happy hour deals fall on a weekday, Preachers are giving us something to fight the impending Sunday Scaries, with $5 mimosas from midday to late.

Whether it's the cheeky hair of the dog or a little something to go with lunch, there's just something about drinking a mimosa in the sunshine that we can always get around.

With a bus parked in the courtyard, it's relaxed and homely with a spacious string light-laden dog and kid-friendly beer garden accompanying the old-style pub interiors, perfect for fuss-free good times, good vibes and great drinks.
